Hard Cover. Zustand: Very Good. Zustand des Schutzumschlags: Good. First Edition. Dust jacket complete, chipped, worn to edges, unclipped price on flap. Brown cloth with bright gilt titling on spine. No ownership inscription. ix, 234 pages clean and tight. In 1984 the Monumental Brass Society was already considering a publicatio…n for its Centenary in 1987, but no theme had presented itself. But at the Society's Annual Weekend Conference, held that year at Acton Burnell, three papers all relating to the Early Brasses were presented. It is these that form the basis for this book. It contains papers by Malcolm Norris on earlier writers with especial reference to knightly brasses; Nicholas Rogers on monuments of bishops and abbots, with identification of remaining indents; Paul Binski from the art-historian's point of view, with a new classification; John Blair on patterns and workshops followed by an invaluable list of pre-1350 brasses and indents. Credit for this idea must go to the then President of the Society, Dr. H. K. Cameron, who died unexpectedly in 1985. JACKET ILLUSTRATIONS Front Cover: Archbishop William de Greenfield, York Minster. Back Cover: Abbot John de Sutton, Dorchester Abbey. Size: 4to.
