The 15th Pennsylvania Cavalry (also called the Anderson Cavalry) was an independent mounted regiment that began service in the East around Antietam and then spent most of the war attached to the Army of the Cumberland, performing scouting, escort, courier, and raid duties. The narrative follows the men through Stones River, the Tullahoma campaign, Chickamauga, the siege and battles around Chattanooga, operations in East Tennessee and Alabama, and the closing 1865 cavalry movements that culminated in the pursuit of Jefferson Davis. The book is richly illustrated with photographs, portraits, drawings, and folding maps and includes a muster roll and index. Civil War bibliographer Allan Nevins called it ?a unique and valuable unit history? too often underrated.? A professional artist in Philadelphia, Mary-Russell wrote ''. cities cannot hold me.'' after expeditions into the British Columbia wilderness in 1909 and again in 1910. She began to create a life that included plenty of time outdoors. She found a partner who shared her love for exploring new paths in zoologist Dr. Harold S. Colton. They married in 1912 and settled near Philadelphia and spend summers exploring either the American Southwest or Maine.
