Cloth. Zustand: Fine. Zustand des Schutzumschlags: Fine. From Photographs (illustrator). First Edition. New York: Alfred A. Knopf, 1987. First Edition. Fine in fine jacket. Edited by Constance Sullivan. Introduction by Peter Schjeldahl. Essays by Gretel Ehrlich, Robert Stone, Richard Howard, and Diane Johnson. Illustrated from photographs throughout (many in color). Signed by one of the essayists, Robert Stone, and inscribed to noted collector Arthur W. Stone. Folio size, rather massive. 255 pp. Brown cloth, spine lettered in gilt, pictorial jacket. Fine in fine jacket. See scans. Note: White-ish patch at top left of cover scan is caused by uneven reflectivity of the mylar jacket; it is not on the dust jacket.) Though nowhere so noted, from the library of Arthur W. Stone. A rather unique event in photographic publishing, Legacy of Light is a testament to the Polaroid camera: 205 striking photographs (of which 105 are in full color) by 58 photographers - and they don't look like any polaroid shots I ever took. Editor Constance Sullivan assembled the aggregation after reviewing hundreds of polaroids from public and private collections. The text include Schjeldahl's intro to the topic, "The Instant Age", followed by four trenchant essays dealing with topical sections of the book: "Landscape" (Greta Ehrlich); "Portrait" (Robert Stone); "The Nude" (Richard Howard); and "Object and Form" (Diane Johnson). A large, beautiful, and meaningful work, this copy signed and inscribed by essayist Stone and presented to noted collector A. W. Stone (no relation). Robert Stone also authored Children of Light, A Flag for Sunrise, A Hall of Mirrors, and Dog Soldiers, which won the National Book Award. See scans. Lg7. Signed and Inscribed By Author.
