" Jonathan Corncob, an unknown American masterpiece of irreverence, sustained debunking, and downright scatology, is first and foremost a wonderfully funny satire of the American Revolution. Anonymously penned and originally published in London in 1787, it has never before been published in America (and on reading the first chapter one quickly sees why). It is one of very few Revolutionary War novels to have survived. Of these, it is by far the best. VG+ in unclipped ($8.95) dustwrapper VG+, now protected with transparent, removable sleeve. Tight, bright and clean, with no markings or inscriptions and minimal signs of usage. FREE POSTAGE WITHIN THE U.K. Non-UK buyers quoted additional Shipping before purchase. Hardcover. Zustand: Fine. Zustand des Schutzumschlags: Very Good. Reprint of the 1787 edition. Edited with foreword by Noel Perrin. Fine in a mildly sunned, very good dustwrapper. Inscribed by Noel Perrin to his editor at *The New Yorker*, Rachel MacKenzie: "To Rachel, whom I love. Ned." Rachel MacKenzie replaced Katherine White as the fiction editor at *The New Yorker*, on the latter's retirement, on the recommendation of May Sarton. During her tenure at the magazine MacKenzie was noted for her nurturing and editing of, among others, Sarton, Philip Roth, Muriel Spark, and especially Isaac Bashevis Singer. MacKenzie's enthusiasm led to the magazine devoting an entire issue to Spark's *The Prime of Miss Jean Brodie*. However, the magazine wouldn't publish *Goodbye, Columbus* as she recommended because William Shawn was too squeamish over the more "frank" aspects of the novella.
