Paperback. Zustand: New. Print on Demand. This book introduces a fresh approach to precise optical wavelength measurements by employing stable optical cavities as references. The author details a new method for frequency measurements in a vacuum using a femtosecond-laser frequency comb. Corrections for atmospheric pressure and cavity temperature ensure accurate resonance wavelengths in air, opening up new possibilities for length measurements, including multiple known wavelengths for multi-wavelength interferometry and swept-wavelength interferometry. The author provides an in-depth discussion of cavity designs, including fabrication tolerances and a novel technique for identifying cavity modes. They also explore sources of uncertainty and propose methods to mitigate them, with a comprehensive error budget presented for a specific cavity design. The work in this book contributes significantly to the field of optical metrology and paves the way for more accurate and versatile length measurements in various scientific and industrial applications. This book is a reproduction of an important historical work, digitally reconstructed using state-of-the-art technology to preserve the original format. In rare cases, an imperfection in the original, such as a blemish or missing page, may be replicated in the book. print-on-demand item.…
