It is a story of amateurism transformed into increasing sophistication and better weaponry; and a professional and patriotic dedication to often humdrum duty that united Great War veterans with youths awaiting the call-up to the regular forces. When they were finally disbanded in November 1944 the Home Guard deserved the thanks of a grateful nation that they had truly served and helped to save.

The book is in excellent condition, the dust jacket has protected it well, but the DJ does show some wear, some tears, some rubbing, and it has been price clipped. All pages, illustrations and maps are present and in excellent condition The period covered is from 1919 to 1952, so does include the Second World War, I include scans of the contents pages showing the battalions and where they served during the war, all 11 of them. There are a number of maps, some in the text and some foldout, (see scans of List of Maps). There are also illustrations throughout the book, (see scans). All maps, pages and illustrations are present and correct. All my books are scanned so you can see what you are buying, also my prices are inclusive of UK postage and packing.
