Signed by author on the first page, with gift inscription to Rowland Abiodun, Professor of African Art at Amherst College: "For a much-admired senior colleague, Rowland Abiodun, with admiration, Dele Jegede, 07092019". The book contains photos of Jegede's artwork from a solo exhibition at Nike Art Galley, Lagos, from April 30th - May 12th, 2011, accompanied by essays by Kolade Oshinowo, Pat Utomi, Chika Okeke-Agulu, and Toyin Falola, and a bio of the artist himself. The book is softcover, and is in Very Good condition. The last two pages of the book contain a legend of the artworks included in the book - on these pages, Abiodun wrote notes in pen next to most of the artworks (see photos). Otherwise, the text is clean and unmarked. The corners of the textblock are lightly bumped. There's some ink bleed on the interior covers from the pen markings. The interior of the front cover has some paper surface remnants stuck to it. There's a bit of rubbing along the fore edge of the textblock. The cover is notably bumped at its spone ends, and at some of its corners. The cover has some general minor edgewear, and a few dings in spots along edges. "Peregrinations: A Solo Exhibition of Drawings and Paintings" was Jegede's first solo exhibition in Nigeria in over twenty years and was held at the Nike Art Gallery in Lekki, Lagos. The exhibition brought together nearly two decades of his creative output (1994-2011), presenting approximately forty-eight works in painting and drawing that reflect his sustained engagement with political and social themes. The body of work on display spanned several thematic concerns: critiques of environmental degradation in the Niger Delta and the political and economic contradictions of Nigerian society; explorations of diasporic identity and cultural cosmology; and reflections on broader socio-cultural paradoxes emerging from his long-standing absence from the Nigerian exhibition scene. The Nike Art Gallery, one of West Africa's most prominent art venues founded by Nike Davies-Okundaye in Lagos, provided the context for this landmark homecoming exhibition. Inscribed by Author(s).…
