"Wo Perugini augenblicklich ist, kann ich Ihnen nicht mittheilen; ich traf ihn vor 3 Jahren zuletzt in Wien [.]". - Rudolf Dellinger studierte Klarinette bei Julius Pisarowitz am Prager Konservatorium und war seit 1880 Kapellmeister in Brünn, Passau, Saaz, Eger, Prag und Czernowitz. "1883 kam er an das Carl-Schultze-Theater in Hamburg, später nach Karlsbad und war seit 1893 Chefdirigent am Dresdner Residenztheater. Dellinger komponierte zahlreiche Operetten, die noch der Wiener Operettenklassik zugeordnet werden [.]" (DBE).

Nach diesen für Dellinger so produktiven wie erfolgreichen Jahren in Hamburg wurde der mit der Operettensängerin Anna Maria Eppich verheiratete Künstler nach Dresden verpflichtet, wo er 1910 im Alter von 53 Jahren geistig umnachtet versterben sollte. Die Wiener Operettenklassik endete mit dem Schaffen von Dellinger. Allein mit seinem einmaligen Ständchen Komm' herab, o Madonna Teresa' (Don Cesar') errang er Weltgeltung und Unvergänglichkeit [.]" (MGG XV, 1751).
