Oscar Francois de Jarjayes, captain of the guards at the Palace of Versailles under King Louis XVI and Marie Antoinette, was born a girl and raised as a boy by her militant father. She now finds herself conflicted, while in the maw of the French Revolution, with the boy she loved in her youth, Oscar, on the opposite side of the struggle.
