In den WarenkorbSoft cover. Zustand: Good. An early tourist's guide to Nevada, with a focus on the Comstock Mines but expanding to cover the rest of the state. From the introduction: "The central idea in the preparation of this little book has been to give, as concisely as possible, such information in regard to the silver mines of the Comstock as the visiting tourist is likely to require. In doing this it was thought best to begin by briefly introducing the whole State of Nevada." Faded blue paper wraps, with creasing to corners and loss to the top and bottom of the spine. Slight toning throughout, with a small loss to the upper margin of one leaf (p.60), not effecting the text. Pages otherwise clean and unmarked. x, 11-158pp. 7x5".…

In den WarenkorbCelebrated as a prominent historical figure from the Comstock, Wright is also revered in West Liberty Iowa, where he met and married Caroline Coleman, and where many of his family still lived until at least the mid-1950 s. Wright died there in 1898, having spent most of his adult life elsewhere. The provenance of these papers: William Wright to daughter Mell (Wright) Evans, to her daughter Irma (Evans) Morris, to her son Evans Morris, to his sister Marjory (Evans) Anderson, to a bookseller s son in Columbus, Ohio, to the present owner. Along with original manuscript material - pictures one and two above, plus marginalia in two periodicals used as source material for the story pictured in part by the manuscript leaf included here, perhaps never published, are many photocopies of original material, including six letters from Samuel Clemens (Mark Twain). The originals were eventually sold or donated by the family, including most if not all of the Clemens letters to the Bancroft Library, UC Berkeley. Also present: Three or four files of manuscript and photocopy family correspondence, including a carte de visite (cdv) photograph of his wife, Caroline Coleman Wright, and a brief genealogy, relating to William Wright from other family members, scholars, and some friends. Copies of some scholarly papers on Wright. Virginia City promotional pamphlets and a few copies of the second version of The Territorial Enterprise, revived in 1952 by Beebe and Clegg. Lots of newspaper clippings with Wright interest, mostly from the 1940 s and 50 s. The papers are enclosed in seven or eight file folders. When stacked up, the stack measures about four inches.…
