Erste Separatausgabe. (2) Bl., 354 S., (1) Bl., (Kress C. 1051). "Le meilleur manuel d`économie politique que je connaisse." (Blanqui, Histoire de L`Économie Politique en Europe, 1842, S. 419). "In 1804 he published his `Traité de la volonté`, part of his `Eléments d`Idéologie`, the larger part of which formed a treatise on political economy. This work was reprinted, without any modification, under the title of a `Traité d`économie politique` in 1823." (Palgrave II, S. 572). Destutt de Tracy (1754 - 1836) was one of the last `philosophes`, beginning "as an 18th century classical metaphysician, preoccupied with the sensationalist doctrine of Locke and Condillac, and ending up, in the words of Auguste Comte, as the philosopher, `who had come closest to the positive state`. . Long before it took on its pejorative sense at the hands of Marx, Tracy coined the term `ideology` (by which he meant the science of ideas) to describe his philosophy, . which gave primacy to economics because he thought that the purpose of society was to satisfy man`s material needs . Tracy rejected the physiocratic notion of value, substituting a labour theory that Ricardo subsequently endorsed in his `Principles`. Like Say, he denied Smith` distinction between productive and unproductive labour. But unlike Smith or Say, he reduced all wealth, including land, to labour. . Along with Say, Destutt de Tracy was one of the earliest members of the French liberal school." (Hébert in The New Palgrave I, S. 816). - Vortitel verso mit dem handschriftlichen Namenszug des Verlegers Levi zum Nachweis der Rechtmässigkeit der Auflage. Please see photos and ask questions, if any, before purchasing. Charles Louis de Secondat, baron de La Brède et de Montesquieu (1689 1755) was generally referred to as simply Montesquieu. His political treatise (1752) The Spirit of Laws covers a wide range of topics in politics, law, sociology, and anthropology. Montesquieu advocates constitutionalism and the separation of powers, the abolition of slavery, the preservation of civil liberties and the rule of law, and the idea that political and legal institutions ought to reflect the social and geographical character of each particular community. Antoine Louis Claude, Comte Destutt de Tracy (1754-1836) was a philosophe and one of the founders in the 1790s of the classical liberal republican group known as the Idéologues (which included Cabanis, Condorcet, Constant, Daunou, Say, Madame de Staël), a politician under several regimes spanning the Revolution and the Restoration, and an influential author. His writings particularly impressed Thomas Jefferson, who translated an published 2 of them in America. While a member of the Senate, he opposed Napoleon, and also spoke out against the subsequent constitutional monarchy, and in support of American-style laissez-faire republicanism. He coined the term ideology while he was at the Institut National. In the present book, de Tracy brings a scientific approach to explaining the motives, and hence the observed consequences, of various kinds of government styles. He systematically works through many substantial flaws in Montesquieu's work, and delves into Montesquieu's logical gaps. Originally written in French about 1807. Later the manuscript was "committed" to Thomas Jefferson, by whom the present translation was revised and forwarded to William Duane, the printer. The French edition appeared in 1819 under title: Commentaire sur l'Esprit des lois. First Edition. RAREA1811COPX - 03/23 FORN-TUB-0074-BB-2504-HKREV744.
