Paperback. Zustand: new. Paperback. History is full of "black pages" that no one seems to remember anymore or has deliberately decided to forget albeit in most cases this oblivion has been imposed. Somewhere in the book, a character, Mr. Fournier who's the one referring to the "bitch" first, says: "We have some great MONUMENTS in France but we don't seem to get along well with MEMORY"The cause to make me write this one has been an event that showed up once in the news and was forgotten the next day albeit Marine Le Pen had praised it a lot. Some high-ranked military generals and others have signed a letter to the President of the French republic, showing their concern and indignation about the current situation in France concerning the emigrant policy and the delinquency problems connected. THIS was a fact, it happened. Now, why no one has ever said or done anything about it afterward remains something surpassing anyone's imagination. The other current event that has 'tickled' me was the upcoming elections in 2022 and the spectacular uprising of a new guy into the extreme-right turf who himself as well as Donald Trump claims "I'm not a politician"! A best-selling author of libels and a 'journalist' bearing the title of "polemiste" which I'm not very certain whether the French using it are aware of its Greek root "polemos=war, polemistis=warrior". Achilles, Ulysses, etc. were warriors, not Eric Zemmour, that's his name, with his plume and libels neither has he the genius of Oscar Wilde for that. The guy goes galloping on his white horse or, to be more accurate, the Media ran him galloping by offering rather willingly more than a couple of hours daily in their program, a podium for him to express all his hate and racism albeit he has been condemned by the Justice in the past for this! What is more surprising though is that the guy, each time he shows up he's yelling "I'm not a politician and/or I'm not a presidential candidate." To the upcoming election in spring 2022!!!!!!According to the previous polls, before this .warrior appeared, Marine Le Pen was given an equal 25% with Macron and a face-to-face duel in the second round. The traditional left- or right-wing parties are both moribunds. It's October 2021 I'm writing this and it has been around a couple of months ago when this Media bombardment with Zemmour has started resulting in the polls turning up totally in a mess!!! Well, it's commonplace nowadays that the polls and the Media elect presidents. Le Pen from 25% has fallen to 15% the same as much, 15%, Zemmour is credited with, and a very serious prevision that after Le Pen's fall within the next six months, the 'polemist' non-candidate to show face to face to Macron in the second round! Despite the polls, Zemmour still goes "no politician, no candidate" and the whole situation looks like an absurd pre-electoral circus. Macron, another Media product, who had buried into the same tomb both the traditional left and right, a new Media Messiah Nazi-like showed up to save the Republic, which remains monarchic regardless of the title. A mouse-faced half-portion little man without the square mustache under his nose that dominates screens and front pages and him, of course, he opens champagnes declaring still "non-politician, non-candidate!!!!!In the gossip pages of the papers, it has been stated that in a friendly gathering he was heard to ask "what would you have done if you were into my shoes?" which of course, is a very plausible question. When they all give you as a potential winner, you cannot remain forever hidden behind the "non-politician, non-candidate". Neither was Donald Tramp and we all have seen what happened when too much money was invested in the elections. With the moribund traditional right-wing shamelessly declaring that in case of a Macron-Zemmour second round they will ally Zemmour, looks like w Shipping may be from our UK warehouse or from our Australian or US warehouses, depending on stock availability. …

Paperback. Zustand: new. Paperback. This IS NOT a Mike Hammer adventure neither am I Mickey Spillane. (I wish I had his money but I look more handsome anyway) It's an Isidore Ducasse adventure hard-boiled with plenty of action like Mike Hammer. AND .it's pure plagiarism, legal nevertheless. Can I write a novel every month? Well . it's not impossible if you spend most of your time in front pf a PC screen but in my age, it's tiring. This new one in English is neither a translation nor plagiarism since it's after one of MY books published in Greek under my real name Baggelhs Dhmhtrogloy (VAN-gelis DIMI-troglou) under the title DISAPPEARANCE and has sold more than 300 copies which is a bestsellers figure for me who "sells" 15-30 copies average. And this book in Greek received positive comments too!!!!!! So, I have revisited it. Not as to translate it only in English but I have enhanced it with more characters and more action transferring the action to the Isidore Ducasse environment in SW France, in the Greek version the actin is in the island of Crete, Greece and the sleuth's name is Vardas. It's not a literature chef d'oeuvre, it's a pulp fiction novel like the Spillane's ones, macho stuff and violence between the tough smart guy and the imbecile goons with the inevitable femmes fatales playing their part.50% of today's crime novels concern missing girls and the other 50 concern cold cases. In this one you have them both for the price of one. Why would I change the standards? If they were not popular, they shouldn't have been such hits.I have added a personal touch in the end though. The book comes with two (2) endings!!!! A Noir one and a Hollywood happy ending one for the sensitive souls. This item is printed on demand. Paperback. Zustand: new. Paperback. This is a Historical fiction Noirish novel of the hard-boiled Private Investigator Theo Vardas during the times of emperor Justinian and his wife Theodora. The "Nika riots" upon which the myth is built and the Hagia Sophia reconstruction had been major events during the Justinian period. This, of course, is purely fictional. The Historical descriptions and facts although subjective, I have tried to maintain a neutral view according to the Historians. The Byzantine or Eastern Roman empire met with its ultimate glory during the Justinian years. That's what everyone says. Is all the rest pure "gossip"? Rancor and jealousy? They all agree about the nasty character of empress Theodora. And, as I said, this is a fictional novel of a probably wild imagination but some FACTS raise questions. The little time needed for the rebuilt of Hagia Sophia after it was destroyed. The whole thing took five years to be accomplished but IT HAS STARTED immediately after it had been destroyed to the point that some Historians and researchers wonder if it had been ordered long before and Anthemius and Isidorus had been working upon some secret state projects concerning a great church months before the "Nika riots". And this by itself leaves an open space for an imagination like mine to make up stories like this one. At the time, there were already TWO great Basilica churches in Constantinople. Hagia Sophia AND Hagia Irene, both in great splendor and admiration. Isidorus's "where the hell is he going to build it? Outside the walls?" appearing in the novel is a plausible question. The city didn't need a THIRD Basilica!!! Thus, my narration is not completely misplaced.I am not an author, this is the first time I try to write a novel -try to write anything- and I don't know the technique. But. I am a huge Noir fan in both cinema and literature. I intended to write a hard-boiled detective P.I Historical Noirish novel. So much for the Noir . History keeps the greatest part of it leaving little to the Noir crime fiction. Historical fiction is the most difficult kind, I have been told. I solemnly confess that after Jim Thomson, Philip Kerr, and his Bernie Gunther are my all-time favorites. Ir would have been pretentious of me to even try to navigate into their paths. Yet, audacious as I might have been at the age of 67, I gave it a go.Writing a novel in the first-person narrative always offers the temptation to express some personal beliefs and ideas and I couldn't avoid it. Historical facts are one thing though and personal beliefs another. I didn't violate History, I simply used it to tell a story. You don't have to agree with me. And, in any case, the intention was to write a Noir crime novel.I used the "Byzantine empire History" by Vassiliev and by Charles Diehl, the Procopius Secret History albeit its contradictions, and the Malamas Chronicles in my research. Paperback. Zustand: new. Paperback. This is the #3 Isidore Ducasse, Private sleuth Mystery Noir series. Isidore gets a secretary, (they all had one!) and takes a pro bono case to help a friend and while unraveling it, it becomes an armagnac connoisseur! It's a Noir fiction novel with all the old-fashioned Noir ingredients. (Been watching too many movies lately). First, there's this hard-boiled Private Dick with the catchy name, out of the same mould as so many before him. Without help in his first two novels, he comes up with a 2m. tall secretary in this one, Norma, who has probably come to stay. The case is a pro bono request of one of Mamie's-clan-members and an old friend, who appears in the first book "The Mechanic's wife" for the first time. Pure Noir intrigue along with a family drama, femmes fatales, blue collar crime, revenge, betrayal, flash-backs and flash-forwards (!!!!!) with the accidental secretary indirectly involved in the plot. Too much music with it along with some movie pictures this time let alone the Opera and the Absurd theatre. Pulp fiction educative entertainment and not only about music. The armagnac beverage and its long history if nothing else, might send you to a liquor-store to buy a bottle.By all means, this is a fictional story and any resemblance with real persons and facts is unintentionally coincidental. The idea of a 4th book, just the idea, is slowly cooking. This item is printed on demand. Paperback. Zustand: new. Paperback. This second BYZANTINE REQUIEM of the Justinian era Private hard-boiled sleuth Theophilus Vardas, deals with a "delicate" subject which, unfortunately, remains until modern times, not the same as cruel perhaps but this Historical fiction Novel is not irrelevant. Children abuse and Justice are matters of all civilizations in human History. It is all fictional of course, a Noirish mystery adventure more to entertain than educate. The context is rather strong and not very sensitive but it reflects strictly personal ideas. The first part had been previously published as 14CHILDREN and the second part as NEMESIS. Since there's a continuity to the narrative, here they are presented as REQUIEM No2. Theo Vardas and his acolyte Turk are assigned a case by none else the emperor Justinian himself and the result is a . bloodbath. Physically and mentally. Sensitive readers kindly stay away.Panic over Constantinople when young children start missing. The emperor's services unable to follow and an outside "private" help is demanded. Theo Vardas and the Turk slowly unravel a huge scandal that includes the rich, the noble and the clergy. Justinian has a very tough decision to take and he takes it. Nothing is changed. Nemesis arrives uninvited in the second part and there it is Theo Vardas who had a tough decision to take. but he's shouldered by the Turk while the emperor is shouldered by his wife and we all know it's not the same.I am an old man, inactive and with a twisted imagination, passionate lover of the Noir movies and literature, trying to overcome his boredom by writing fictional novels. Travel in Historical times with his hero, a P. I out of the same mold like all P. Is before him, unraveling the dark sides of the glorious era of the Justinian I reign withing the long History of the Byzantine empire. I am not a WRITER. Writers write books expecting people to read them and make money or a name. in other words, the write books FOR their readers. I write for myself, few might read them a definitely I'm not going to make any money out of it. Or am I ? This item is printed on demand.
