Der in Wien geborene Schriftsteller zählt zu den "vielseitigsten Literaten des Fin de siècle" (Czeike II, 81), war 1890 Mitarbeiter von Eduard Michael Kafkas Monatsschrift 'Moderne Dichtung' und saß in Hermann Bahrs Tischgesellschaft, wo er u. a. Henrik Ibsen begegnete. 1891 veröffentlichte er seinen ersten Gedichtband 'Neurotica' in der Tradition stilisierter Resignation über Leben und Welt im Gefolge Nikolaus Lenaus. Neben eigenen erzählerischen und lyrischen Werken übersetzte Dörmann aus dem Englischen und Französischen, schrieb Opernlibretti (u. a. für Oscar Straus' 'Walzertraum, 1907) und gründete 1912 die 'Vindobona-Film', die - später in 'Helios', 'Duca' und 'Austria' umbenannt - bis 1914 mehrere Filme produzieren sollte. Nach dem Ersten Weltkrieg als Romanautor hervortretend, schuf Dörmann mit 'Jazz' eine beklemmende Milieustudie aus dem Wien der Nachkriegszeit.…
