An interesting collection of illustrated writings by musicians from the period before the explosion of Rock n' Roll and pop music. The era of jazz, blues and many performers from different genres of music - a compilation annual published in 195…6. First impression of the first edition. Large format hardback in the original dustwrapper. Profusely illustrated in both black & white and colour. ***Very good in navy-blue cloth-covered boards with silver titles on the spine, and silver titles and illustration on the front board. The silver is still nice and bright, having been protected by the dustwrapper, and the boards are clean and generally unmarked - just slightly rubbed at the edges. There is also a crease to the back board (please see scans). No reading lean to the binding - the spine is flat and the boards are flat. The page block edges are clean and not foxed. Internally also very good with no previous ownership inscriptions. No creases or tears. Illustrated endpapers showing Doris Day and Jimmy Young (the endpapers are slightly wrinkled). ***In the original pictorial dustwrapper, priced at 6/- on the front panel. The dustwrapper is, unusually, complete, with just some general edge-wear, creases and small closed tears to the edges. Some surface rubbing also to the top of the spine. No serious creases and no chips or serious tears. No fading. Dustwrapper bright and clean. ***278mm x 218mm. 94pp. ***A plethora of musicians and bands are covered in the book, some more well known than others, and the book is laid out with text and pictures interspersed. Artists covered include Johnnie Ray, Petula Clark, Eddie Fisher, Ruby Murray, Ronnie Hilton, Vera Lynn, Winifred Atwell, Bing Crosby, Louis Armstrong (Satchmo), Nat King Cole, Eddie Calvert, Fats Waller, Joan Regan, Frank Sinatra and many more! ***Please see scans for some of the content. ***This annual is somewhat scarce now in any condition - any copies complete with the original dustwrapper are seldom found now.
