He discusses the history of animal psychology as a science using examples of wild animals that develop without man's interference. He discusses how animals live in the wild, demonstrating the similarities of human and animal homes, even to the extent of room divisions and roads between homes. Dr. Hediger includes fascinating accounts of curious facts such as the mysterious synchronization that allows shoals of fish to move in perfect unison, and his discussion of animal social relationships-fighting, care of the young, and the begging so typical in zoos. There are chapters on flight patterns, the special behavior of circus animals, comparison of wild and domestic animals, animal expression, and play and training. Pages remain bright and clean with minimal tanning and foxing. Binding slightly loose. Minor pencil inscriptions to front free endpaper. Boards have heavy shelf wear with bumping and fraying to corners and crushing and fraying to spine ends. Gilt lettering to spine is dulled but remains brighter on front. Unclipped jacket has heavy edge wear with tears, chipping and creasing. Some tanning and foxing to all surfaces, particularly to spine.
