Verso of this page lists Ducommun's forty-seven representative manufacturing companies. Ducommun Metals & Supply Company was founded in 1849 by Charles Ducommun in Los Angeles, California. Ducommun began as a hardware supply store whose main clientele included pioneers and gold prospectors hoping to strike it rich during the California Gold Rush. With technological advances and the advent of widespread aviation during the 1920s, the company ventured into the aerospace industry. Notably, Ducommun supplied parts for planes designed by aircraft designer Donald Douglas and others flown by aviator Charles Lindbergh. The company's partnership with Donald Douglas marked its longstanding specialization in the aerospace industry. During World War II, Ducommun gained prominence as a distributor of metals used for American military aircraft. Ducommun is considered the oldest surviving company in California and continues its work in the aerospace industry as well as the defense and industrial industries.
