So zwingen etwa die fortschreitende Globalisierung und der damit einhergehende Rationalisierungsdruck für Unternehmen deren Mitarbeiter zu immer mehr Innovativität und Effizienz in der Leistungserstellung. Die postindustrielle Gesellschaft ist eine Wissensgesellschaft. Besonders in rohstoffarmen Ländern wird modernes Wissen zum wichtigsten Produktionsfaktor. Auch Wissen selbst wird produziert und muß aufgrund seiner beobachtbar zunehmenden Obsoleszenz schnell und effektiv umgesetzt werden, um ökonomisch verwertbar zu sein. Im Rahmen eines Wissensmanagements ist ein möglichst reibungsloser Wissenstransfer an die Mitarbeiter erforderlich, um Wettbewerbsvorteile für das Unternehmen zu schaffen1. Generell ersetzt das lebenslange Lernen das Lernen auf Vorrat. Heutzutage hat ein Mitarbeiter nur noch 15 20% des für seinen Beruf benötigten Wissens im Kopf. Da seine Arbeitsanforderungen aber nicht konstant bleiben, ersetzt er sein Wissen im Laufe seiner Erwerbsbiographie durchschnittlich 2 3 mal2. Folglich ist die betriebliche Weiterbildung auf dem Vormarsch und der Trend, dem die Mitarbeiter ausgesetzt sind, heißt learning networks. Diese Arbeit versucht nun, die mit dem Begriff learning networks umrissenen Formen von E-Learning überblicksartig darzustellen und sie aus lerntheoretischer Perspektive zu bewerten. Da die große Fülle von Lerntheorien hier jedoch sinnvoller Weise nicht einbezogen werden kann, soll eine Konzentration auf eine Bewertung der E-Learning- Konzepte aus konstruktivistischem Blickwinkel erfolgen. In einem ersten Teil werden grundsätzliche Gedanken und Merkmale des Konstruktivismus aufgeführt.
