Hardcover. Zustand: Fine. Zustand des Schutzumschlags: Near Fine. 1st Edition. Fine unread condition red boards with gold spine lettering contained in a near fine condition color photographic dust jacket. Includes Authors' Dedication; Preliminary Page Quote; Acknowledgments; Introduction; and Acronyms and Jargon. Signed by both authors, Apollo 16 Astronaut Charlie Duke and Dotty Duke, both with thin blue ink on the half title page. "If anyone ever wonders what an astronaut is doing at lift-off, this astronaut was holding on! Moonwalker is the story of how a small town South Carolina boy set goals for himself and strived to succeed - first in prep school and at the Naval Academy, then as a fighter and test pilot, and finally as an astronaut and businessman. Moonwalker captures in print the thrill and excitement of flying to the moon, from the selection process to the training to the actual flight. In authentic dialog from NASA tapes and with his eyewitness account of how it all came about, Duke puts it together in this thoroughly fascinating story of his adventures in space. If you've ever wnodered how astronauts take care of their personal needs in zero gravity, you'll find some unexpected answers to such question as how do astrnuats in space eat? drink"? get dressed? brush their teeth? go to the bathroon? sleep? But there's more to the Duke story than space travel. The early excitement and glamour of Dotty's marriage to an astronaut too soon wore thin because of neglect and indifference - and her contemplation of suicide nearly ended their marriage. But working through her despair, Dotty found hope in Jesus Christ. She committed her life to Him and made a new commitment to her relationship with Charile. Charlie eventually heard the truth of the gospel and turned his life over to the Lord. Their personal discovery of Christ worked the needed miracle in their lives, and their incredible conversion opened the doors to adventures even more satisfying than walking on the moon." - from the inner front and rear jacket flaps. Pappband mit Schutzumschlag. Zustand: Gut. 1. Auflage. Mai 2019 wurde ein Asteroid nach ihm benannt: (26382) Charlieduke /// Standort Wimregal HOM-31841 ISBN 0840791062 WITHIN THE EU: shipping only to GERMANY and AUSTRIA due to the new EPR regulations. In 1972 aboard Apollo 16, Charlie Duke became the tenth of twelve men to walk on the moon. He attended the U.S. Naval Academy in 1957 and earned a Master of Science degree in Aeronautics from the Massachusetts Institute of Technology in 1964. Following his graduation from the U.S. Naval Academy, Duke was commissioned into the U.S. Air Force. Upon his retirement, Duke held the rank of Air Force Reserve Brigadier General and had logged 4,147 hours of flying time, which included 3,632 hours in jet aircraft As one of the 19 astronauts selected by NASA in April 1966, Duke served as lunar module pilot of Apollo 16 from April 16-27 in 1972. Apollo 16 was the first scientific expedition to inspect, survey, and sample materials and surface features in the Descartes region of the rugged lunar highlands. With the completion of his first space flight, Duke logged 265 hours in space and over 21 hours of extra vehicular activity. His special honors include the NASA Distinguished Service Medical, and the Air Force Distinguished Service Medal with Oak Leaf Cluster.
