Royal bookplate of Prince Henry with crown and entwined initials HG, the name GLOUCESTER a…nd his 'Honi Soit Qui Mal Y Pense' motto. Prince Henry, Duke of Gloucester (1900-1974) was the third son of King George V and Queen Mary. He served as Governor-General of Australia from 1945 to 1947. One hundred humorous designs by E. Griset. Engraved by the Brothers Dalziel. Slight browning to front endpaper, very slight wear at internal hinges and slight rubbing to extremities, otherwise very good indeed. Decent copy.

Pages preponderately clean, a few have light thumb marks. Firm, with neat gutter repairs to the endpapers. In the original binding of russet pictorial cloth blocke…d in black and gold: 2cm pale patch (splash damage) to upper board, and a few minor marks. Spine ends softened and rubbed, a few scuffs to edges, otherwise firm and generally bright. A good copy of a scarce title.
