The book is in very good + condition with no inscriptions, with light foxing to the fep and page edges. The dust wrapper is in very good + condition and is not price clipped, with sunning to the spine. The wrapper comes in a clear unattached protective cover. Zustand: Fair. 1880. First Edition. 408 pages. No dust jacket. Decorative blue cloth with with gilt lettering and decorations. Contains large colour map to frontispiece. Gilt text block edges. Yellow coated endpapers and pastedowns. Prize plate to front pastedown. Cracking to hinges and gutters, front board is slightly loose to top. Binding throughout is slightly loose, however pages throughout remains firmly attached. Pages are lightly tanned with foxing to edges. More pronounced towards the start and end of the book. Small tears to fore edge of pages 399-408. Text is unaffected. Occasional thumb-marking. Map to front remains in good condition with minor tearing to fore edge. Boards have noticeable edge wear with corner bumping. Moderate tanning to spine and edges with some crushing to spine ends. Small splits to spine ends & corners causing cloth to be slightly frayed. Noticeable dark marks to edges of boards. Faint water marks overall. Book has a slight forward lean. Gilt lettering is bright.

Cloth. Zustand: Good+. 1st. First ediiton of this first-hand account of the Zulu Wars 408pp, fold out map (complete but heavily restored with clear archival tape). Contents clean, some slight wear and rubbing to edges. Original decorative blue cloth boards, rebacked with original, rather faded, spine relaid, new end-papers, edges of boards rubbed, cloth a little marked. Rare.
