David Thompson was a British-Canadian fur trapper and explorer who was the first European to navigate the full length of the Columbia River. Thompson's journals presented in this book were written in the years between 1800 and 1812. The editor selected the passages from the journals that describe each stage of his exploration of the Columbia River.
