Including original hand written intended Preface (11pp) and Dedication written by Lady Edwards with the following explanation - " This Preface was written and intended to be used by me in publishing the first volume of my dear husband's "Life of Sir Henry Lawrence" immediately after the death of Sir Herbert Edwardes. It was approved and sanctioned by Lord Lawrence and General Sir George Lawrence and was in the hands of the publisher when another branch of the family Henry Waldermer? Lawrence and Lady Alice Lawrence interfered and asked that Mr Herman Merivale should complete the book before any publication. Lady Edwardes gave up the manuscript at their request". In Two Volumes. Vol I - prepared by Lawrence's dear friend and scholar in Indian administration and statesmanship, Sir Herbert Edwardes. The biography was left unfinished at Edwardes death in December 1868.
