Zustand: Very Good. 1st Edition. 68 pages with a 4 page list of subscribers at the rear, woodcut vignetter illustrations, gilt embossed blue cloth, bevelled edges, spine a little dull and light rubbing, slim octavo. *The poetry collection by this doyen of Ilkeston society in the late 19th century is quite varied, titles include "The British Disaster at Isandula", The MUrder, The Loss of the Atalanta, The Franco-German War, The Stolen Child, Balfour The Brave, etc. A much scarcer work than his other works on Ilkeston, on the river Erewash. **He was born at Cossall, Nottinghamshire on May 7th 1851, the son of James Trueman.The family moved to Ilkeston in 1858. After leaving school age 10, he followed the profession of compositor in the printing trade, he later became Editor of the Ilkeston Pioneer newspaper and published several books including Portrait Gallery of Ilkestonians (1887) and History of Ilkeston (1899). .
