A negative account of the Gold Rush subtitled "A short description of California and the dangers which threaten the immigrant along with the story of the sad fate of a German immigrant. In the Introduction, Ferol Egan describes publications which were available in Germany that encouraged or discouraged Germans about immigrating to the Unite d States in search of gold. One particular publication by J. Muller has been translated from the German and is reprinted in this book and describes the horrible things that will happen to immigrants coming to America.…
