La taille de l'échantillon a été déterminée statistiquement à l'aide de la méthode d'échantillonnage stratifié proportionnel de Fisher, tandis que la technique d'échantillonnage probabiliste à plusieurs degrés a été utilisée pour sélectionner 600 échantillons qui ont constitué les participants à l'étude. Le questionnaire, les guides d'entretien approfondi (IDI) et de discussion en groupe (FGD) ont été les principaux instruments de collecte des données. Les données recueillies ont été analysées à l'aide du logiciel SPSS (Statistical Package for Social Sciences), tandis que l'analyse de contenu a été utilisée pour analyser les données qualitatives. Cette étude a révélé que la phytothérapie est perçue comme une forme naturelle de médecine ayant peu ou pas d'effets secondaires nocifs par les habitants des AGL d'Aboh Mbaise et d'Owerri, dans l'État d'Imo, au Nigeria. Data collected were analyzed using the Statistical Package for Social Sciences (SPSS), while content analysis was used to analyze the qualitative data. This study revealed that herbal medicine is perceived as a natural form of medicine with little or no harmful side-effects among the people of Aboh Mbaise and Owerri Municipal LGAs, Imo State, Nigeria. This has generated a high level of patronage of herbal preparations in the state; factors such as the media, cultural beliefs, age, educational qualification, referrals from family and friends and cost were found to account for the mode of perception of herbal medicine prevalent in Imo State.
