Paperback. Zustand: New. Print on Demand. This book provides a comprehensive exploration of the spectra of stars classified as Secchi type four. The author delves into the historical context of stellar spectroscopy, tracing its evolution from the initial observations of Fraunhofer to the more advanced techniques and discoveries of the late 19th century. Through a meticulous analysis of photographic plates, the author unveils the intricate details of these stellar spectra, including the identification of bright and dark lines, and the measurement of their wavelengths. This detailed examination sheds light on the physical properties and chemical compositions of Secchi type four stars, contributing to our understanding of their place within the broader context of stellar evolution. The book's findings have significant implications for astrophysics, offering valuable insights into the nature and behavior of these enigmatic celestial objects. This book is a reproduction of an important historical work, digitally reconstructed using state-of-the-art technology to preserve the original format. Paperback. Zustand: New. Print on Demand. This book is an extensive study of the Sun produced by the author, the founder of the Kenwood Observatory. Here he describes important solar phenomena not visible to the eye and not shown on regular photographs. This includes the discovery of bright calcium regions that correspond to hot calcium vapor in the upper part of faculae and in the lower part of the chromosphere. The author coined the term "flocculi" to describe these calcium clouds, as they are not identical in appearance to the underlying faculae. The book delves into the varying level of intensity of calcium vapor at various elevations above the photosphere and explains how changes in the density of calcium vapor impact our observations. It also discusses the structure and composition of the photosphere and chromosphere, offering a unique perspective on solar activity and contributing significantly to our understanding of the Sun. There is creasing to the mount & to the photograph with an ink blot to the mount's top edge. Folded once for mailing. Good. The portrait depicts Ellerman leaning over and peering into a technical instrument.Ferdinand Ellerman [1869-1940] was an astronomer associated with the development of the Yerkes and Mount Wilson observatories. Micro solar flares called Ellerman bombs were named for him.The Queens, New York Republican Congressman Seymour Halpern (1913-1997) started his political career as a campaign aide to New York's powerful mayor Fiorella La Guardia and first served in New York's State Senate for 14 years before seeking a seat in the U.S. Congress. In Albany Halpern sponsored 279 bills that became law, including measures on schools, housing, civil rights, nutrition and mental health. A Liberal, he was something of an anomaly as the lone Republican representative from New York City, and generally garnered support from Labor Unions and endorsement from the Liberal Party. Yet he never even considered switching parties as he considered membership in the Republican Party a family tradition and commitment. While he found ample time for his private pursuits, including painting and collecting autographs, he took his legislative duties very seriously. Of these, he was proudest of his co-sponsorship of the 1964 Civil Rights Act and of the original 1965 Medicare legislation.Rare.…
