Paper Covers. Zustand: Near Fine. First Edition. 1974 First Edition. Size octavo, 319 pages. Thick paper covers with black titles to the front cover and spine. Condition near fine, corners and spine ends slightly rubbed, contents very clean. Eric Bywaters' copy, with his signature to the half-title and a few marks in the margins to highlight the odd paragraph here and there. Eric Bywaters 1910-2003, rheumatologist, professor. This copy was presented to Eric Bywaters by one of the editors, fellow rheumatologist Professor S. Yousuf Ali. Loosely inserted is a 2 page typed and hand-signed letter dated 1989, from Professor Ali to Bywaters enclosing the book, saying how sadly H.K. Lewis & Co are no more but he and the institute have a number of copies left that they can send "gratis" to any fellow professionals who might want one. He asks if Bywaters is enjoying his retirement and then goes in to detail about the work he is currently doing and some work following on from Bywaters' own research in to abnormal calcification that he hopes to undertake after that.
