This study was conducted to assess its woody species diversity based on homestead agroforestry system, carbon sequestration potential and its s…ocioeconomic benefits at Tselemti district. A total of ninety nine plots, ninety from less than five year, five to ten years and greater than ten years domestication of O. abyssinica based homesteads and one exclosure with nine plots as comparison were taken. In total, 27 culms were randomly selected for biomass and carbon stock determination using three levels of age and three DBH levels. A total of 153 households were surveyed to assess socioeconomic benefits of O. abyssinica. The study revealed that species density, richness and diversity were significantly higher in the exclosure than in the three homesteads (p0.000). Carbon stock was significantly higher in one to three and greater than three years than less than one year culm age (P0.001).This study confirmed that woody species diversity was higher for those households that domesticate O. abyssinica on their homesteads earlier than those households that domesticate later.

Cette étude a été menée afin d'évaluer la diversité des espèces ligneuses associées au système agroforestier des exploitations fami…liales, le potentiel de séquestration du carbone et les avantages socio-économiques de cette espèce dans le district de Tselemti. Au total, 99 parcelles ont été sélectionnées : 90 provenant d'exploitations familiales cultivant O. abyssinica depuis moins de cinq ans, entre cinq et dix ans et plus de dix ans, ainsi qu'une zone d'exclusion comprenant neuf parcelles à des fins de comparaison. Au total, 27 tiges ont été sélectionnées au hasard pour déterminer la biomasse et le stock de carbone en utilisant trois tranches d'âge et trois niveaux de diamètre à hauteur de poitrine (DBH). Au total, 153 ménages ont été interrogés pour évaluer les avantages socio-économiques d'O. abyssinica. L'étude a révélé que la densité, la richesse et la diversité des espèces étaient significativement plus élevées dans la zone d'exclusion que dans les trois exploitations (p < 0,000). Le stock de carbone était significativement plus élevé pour les tiges âgées de un à trois ans et de plus de trois ans que pour celles âgées de moins d'un an (P < 0,001). Cette étude a confirmé que la diversité des espèces ligneuses était plus élevée pour les ménages ayant domestiqué O. abyssinica sur leurs parcelles plus tôt que pour ceux l'ayant fait plus tard.
