In der Ben-Gurion-Universität im israelischen Beer Sheva gründete er das Hubert Burda Center for Innovative Communications. Er unterstützt mit den "Partners in Tolerance" Steven Spielbergs Shoah Foundation und die Produktion der CD-ROM mit Zeugnissen der Holocaust-Überlebenden für den Unterricht an Schulen. 2005 initiierte er zusammen mit Münchner Medienhäusern das Projekt "Paten für Toleranz", zur Unterstützung des Jüdischen Zentrums am Jakobsplatz. Für seine verlegerischen und unternehmerischen Leistungen ist er mit zahlreichen Preisen geehrt worden, darunter der "Europäische Print Medien Preis". Im Jahr 2000 verlieh der Ministerpräsident des Landes Baden-Württemberg ihm den Titel Professor.
