Daarom is dit niet alleen het verhaal geworden van de gevangenis, maar ook dat van de burgers. In het boek wordt aangetoond dat de bouw van de gevangenis onlosmakelijk deel uitmaakte van een grootschalige stadsaanleg in de 13de eeuw.
