Hildebrand belonged to the Independent Bushwhacking Department of the Confederate States of America. Six Guns 686 and Adams One-Fifty 53 say, "A rare and readable account of this notorious outlaw's activities." Hildebrand recounts his early years in Missouri, his family background and the mounting conflicts that ultimately forced him into guerrilla warfare. Over the course of seven years, Hildebrand details raids, skirmishes, and executions carried out by his band of guerrillas, claiming personal responsibility for nearly one hundred killings. Professionally rebacked with original cloth spine neatly laid-down and new endpapers. Some light spotting to covers and some oxidizing to gilt lettering on spine. A very good copy of this rare account.
