Hardcover. Zustand: Very Good. No Jacket. 1st Edition. This volume explores the period encompassing the War of 1812 and its aftermath through 1828, a transformative epoch in early U.S. history. It begins with the causes of the war Britain s naval blockades, impressment of American sailors, and frontier tensions and chronicles key battles such as the defense of the Capitol, the burning of Washington, and Andrew Jackson's rise at New Orleans. The final peace, sealed by the Treaty of Ghent in December 1814, restored pre-war borders and ushered in the Era of Good Feelings, marked by a surge of nationalism, political unity after the decline of the Federalists, and economic expansion. Overall, this collection offers a rich blend of first-person accounts and historical analysis, illuminating how a brief war reshaped America s national identity, financial systems, foreign policy, and political landscape in the decades that followed.…

Hardcover. Zustand: Very Good. VERY NICE DARK BLUE COVER, GOLD DESIGN AND PRINT SPINE. FRONTISPIECE A PICTURE OF CARDINAL WOLSEY. FORMER OWNERS LABEL IN FRONT. TIGHT AND CLEAN THROUGHOUT. FOR THE LOVER OF HISTORY, CATHOLIC HISTORY AND CARDINAL WOLSEY. 11 CHAPTERS WITH GREAT DETAIL. Thomas Wolsey (c. March 1473 ? 29 November 1530) was an English statesman and Catholic cardinal. When Henry VIII became King of England in 1509, Wolsey became the king's almoner. Wolsey's affairs prospered and by 1514 he had become the controlling figure in virtually all matters of state. He also held important ecclesiastical appointments. These included the Archbishop of York?the second most important role in the English church?and that of papal legate. His appointment as a cardinal by Pope Leo X in 1515 gave him precedence over all other English clergy. The highest political position Wolsey attained was Lord Chancellor, the king's chief adviser (formally, as his successor and disciple Thomas Cromwell was not). In that position, he enjoyed great freedom and was often depicted as the alter rex ("other king"). ANTIQUE BOOKS DEN, WHERE HISTORY LIVES. ILLUSTRATED (illustrator). …

FOR THE LOVER OF HISTORY, CATHOLIC HISTORY AND CARDINAL RICHELIEU. 10 CHAPTERS WITH GREAT DETAIL. Armand Jean du Plessis, 1st Duke of Richelieu 9 September 1585 ? 4 December 1642), known as Cardinal Richelieu, was a French statesman and prelate of the Catholic Church. He became known as l'Éminence rouge, or "the Red Eminence", a term derived from the title "Eminence" applied to cardinals and from the red robes that they customarily wear. Consecrated a bishop in 1607, Richelieu was appointed Foreign Secretary in 1616. He continued to rise through the hierarchy of both the Catholic Church and the French government, becoming a cardinal in 1622 and chief minister to King Louis XIII of France in 1624. He retained that office until his death in 1642, when he was succeeded by Cardinal Mazarin, whose career he had fostered. Richelieu became engaged in a bitter dispute with Marie de Médici, the king's mother, and formerly his close ally. ANTIQUE BOOKS DEN, WHERE HISTORY LIVES. ILLUSTRATED (illustrator).…
