Paperback. Zustand: New. Print on Demand. This book represents a compilation of the initial six volumes of Annals of the Astrophysical Observatory of the Smithsonian Institution and describes, in great detail, the research undertaken by the observatory between 1900 and 1907. The efforts described in this volume act as a continuation of the work begun by the late Secretary Langley, which focused on understanding the relationship between the sun and its impact on life and climate on earth. One of the most notable undertakings outlined in this book was the 1900 solar eclipse expedition, which yielded valuable data on the nature of the solar corona and the energy emitted by it. Additionally, significant advancements were made in improving the spectrobolometer's sensitivity, leading to breakthroughs in the study of the solar envelope. The author also details the development and implementation of a new horizontal reflecting telescope, offering superior seeing conditions and allowing for more precise solar image observations. Ultimately, this book provides valuable insights into the pioneering research conducted by the Smithsonian Institution in the early 20th century, highlighting the institution's significant contributions to our understanding of solar radiation and its effects on the Earth. This book is a reproduction of an important historical work, digitally reconstructed using state-of-the-art technology to preserve the original format. Paperback. Zustand: New. Print on Demand. This book presents a detailed account of the progress in solar studies conducted by the Smithsonian Institution's Astrophysical Observatory between 1913 and 1915. It begins by describing the existing knowledge of the sun's variability and then presenting the latest solar radiation measurements made by the author and his team. The book goes on to discuss the development of new instruments and methods for measuring solar radiation, including the vacuum bolometer, pyranometer, and balloon pyrheliometer. The author presents evidence of the variability of the sun's radiation and discusses its implications for terrestrial weather and climate. The book concludes by summarizing the main results of the author's research and highlighting the importance of continued solar observations for understanding its impact on the Earth.
