Szabo, originally published in the Journal of the Oceanographical Society of Japan as part of its 20th Anniversary Volume. The paper presents radiochemical oceanographic research analyzing radium distribution in deep ocean waters to estimate renewal times and vertical eddy diffusivity in the Pacific and Indian Oceans. Based on data from the Swedish Deep-Sea Expedition, the DOWNWIND Expedition, and the MONSOON Expedition, the study includes methodological discussion, tabulated measurements, global distribution maps, and interpretive models addressing deep-water circulation and mixing processes.
