An "Owed" to Law Stenographers. [Los Angeles: Privately Printed, 1947]. 5, [1] pp. Stapled pamphlet in thick printed paper wrappers. Negligible light rubbing to extremities, light toning to interior, presentation inscriptions from Farrand to Reeta Walker Brooks to front cover and head of title page. $300. * Only edition. Farrand, a prominent Los Angeles lawyer and civic leader, published this "Owed" (i.e. Ode), a tribute (in prose), to acknowledge the contributions of the women who worked as law clerks, secretaries, and stenographers of courts and law offices "throughout the land" during World War II and "by and large stuck to their jobs and received little recognition for admirable service under unpleasant wartime conditions" (1-2). Reeta Walter Brooks and her husband, Lawrence Bickford Brooks [1901-1954], an attorney, were prominent residents and civic leaders in Pasadena. The inscription reads: "To my good friend Reeta/ you once did a fine job, too/ as I well recall./ G.E.F." This appears to be an unrecorded title. No copies located on OCLC or in the online catalogues of the LA County Library, LA County Law Library and UCLA Law School.
