This is a playbill from the New York City Ballet's THE NUTCRACKER starring Peter Martins (I noted in the program "his last performance as a dancer"); and a rare appearance of Jerome Robbins in the role of Herr Drosselmeir (also note by me in hand writing "one of the few times he appeared on stage"); half the original ticket stub of that evenings performance Dec. 6th 1983; program has 54 pages; some of the other principle dancer at the time are listed: Jacques d'Amboise, Merrill Ashley, Bart Cook, Darci Kistler, Patricia McBride, and many more; edition size is unknown, it is not signed by any of the dancers; some normal aging to interior pages, otherwise in GOOD COND.

This copy is bright, tight, white and square. The author has signed and dated this dedicated copy on the obverse of the f.e.p. The unclipped dust wrapper is in new condition. Jerome Farrell is a very experienced archivist and this impressive work was born of a "surprise discovery", namely the unearthing of correspondence of three young men to the clerical staff of the Leathersellers' Company during the First World War. We've had ample material on the Somme and other WW1 anniversaries in recent months, but this book is a gem of an altogether different order. It offers the reader a sustained look at war experiences from the "micro" viewpoint: the accounts of Horace Blake, Wallace Allen and Cyril Glaysher. Much of the material is passed through the intermediary of the Leathersellers' clerical staff and thus one gets an insight into the role played by, what the author calls this "family group," of Freemen and Liverymen. The accounts of the three men are far from repetitive, but offer complimentary insights into wartime experiences. It's a fascinating read, made all the more attractive by the sumptuous production values of the book. This hardback edition spares no expense with beautifully produced insets of the letters, engaging photos and images of much of the documentary material. The writing throughout is clear, unfussy and easy to follow. Ref A5 5. Signed by Author(s).
