Hardback. Zustand: Very Good. First Edition. 1983. First edition. xxix, 247pp., and a black and white frontispiece portrait of J.D.B. Mitchell. This collection of essays was first mooted as a method of marking the fifteenth anniversary, in 1983, of the founding within Edinburgh University of the Centre of Eupropean Governmental…Studies. In particular, it was intended as a tribute to Professor J.D.B. Mitchell, Salvesen Professor of European Institutions in the University of Edinburgh. Following Mitchell's death in 1980, what was planned as a celebration has become a commemoration. The scope of the contributions is intended to reflect not only Professor Mitchell's interest in European community Law but also his previous interest in Public Law in general. The essays are grouped into four main sections. Part I is concerned with problems of UK public law, Part II with the interaction of community law and international law, Part III with the Community institutions, and Part IV with aspects of the substantive law of the beliefs with regard to the European Communities. The book is bound in the original maroon cloth covered boards with gold titling on the spine and a gold crest on the front board. The case of the book is in very good condition with light shelf wear and light bumping to the bottom of the spine. This copy was presented to Sir Malcolm Leslie Rifkind (born 1946), a British politician who served in the cabinets of Margaret Thatcher and John Major from 1986 to 1997, and later as chair of the Intelligence and Security Committee of Parliament, and the following inscription is written on the front free endpaper: "Presented in grateful appreciation to Malcolm Rifkind M.P. on the occasion of his visit to the Centre of European Governmental Studies." It has been flat signed by Sir John Cameron (1900-1996), who was a Scottish judge and President of the Royal Society of Edinburgh, and Professor Malcolm Anderson, a Scottish political scientist at the University of Edinburgh. The inscription is dated 9th March 1984. The contents are otherwise tight and clean. Inscribed and Signed by Author.
