In den WarenkorbHardcover. Zustand: Fine. No Jacket. 1st Edition. Nay-Thah-Way-Nah: An Indian Boy and Other Lore By Florence Drake Edited and Compiled by Florence Drake Keller Printed by: Transcript Press, Norman, Oklahoma Edition: First Edition, March 1974 Copyright: 1974 ???????????????????????????????????? ABOUT THIS BOOK A privately produced first edition collecting the stories, customs, and lore of Oklahoma's Native American tribes ? principally the Shawnee ? as documented by Florence Drake and posthumously edited and compiled by her daughter, Florence Drake Keller. The preface notes that many of these myths and legends were shared reluctantly, as some tribal members felt they should not be shared with outsiders, making this a preservation document of genuine ethnographic significance. The central narrative follows Nay-Thah-Way-Nah, a young Shawnee boy whose father was a grandson of the great Shawnee chief Se-leeka and whose ancestors fought alongside Tecumseh in the War of 1812. The stories document Shawnee customs, relationship with nature, tribal religion, and the collision of Native life with the encroaching Federal government ? told from an intimate, personal perspective that distinguishes this from more detached academic accounts. ???????????????????????????????????? ILLUSTRATIONS Throughout the text are ink wash illustrations signed "B.F." in the lower corner ? expressive, painterly renderings of scenes from the narrative, reproduced directly in the text. The illustrator has not been identified but the work is accomplished and sympathetic to the subject matter. ???????????????????????????????????? BIBLIOGRAPHIC DETAILS - First edition, March 1974 - Transcript Press, Norman, Oklahoma - Privately produced ? small print run, no subsequent editions known - Burgundy cloth boards with gilt lettering and gilt Native American profile illustration to front board - Ink wash illustrations throughout signed "B.F." - No dust jacket ? issued without one ???????????????????????????????????? CONDITION Boards: Near Fine. Burgundy cloth bright and clean. Gilt lettering and cover illustration crisp and present. No fading, soiling, or wear to note. Interior: Clean and bright throughout. Illustrations sharp. No ownership markings, underlining, or foxing observed. A scarce Oklahoma regional title with no market footprint ? ideal for collectors of Native American lore, Oklahoma history, or Shawnee heritage materials. Please review all photos carefully. Happy to provide additional images on request.…
