"Satire on feminism and Spiritualism, involving futurity and an ideal society based on women's agitation . In approach imitative of early Dickens or Theodore Hook, but with no great literary merit. Somewhat clumsy as satire, for the various levels of reality are not well integrated. Nevertheless, important for its use of contemporary folkways." - Bleiler, Science-Fiction: The Early Years 799. The book's spine title is "Lucy Boston." The story ends with the "laconic" epitaph: "SPIRITUALISM / AND / WOMAN'S RIGHTS! / Twins in their birth and ill begot; / Twins in their grave -- there let 'em rot." Wright (II) 926.
