Cloth. Zustand: Poor. Cloth hardcover has many stains and peeling "USED" sticker at middle of spine, dog-earing of corners and tears at corners/spine. Coffee stains on end paper, half-title page, title page, and occasionally on other pages. Pencil and blue pen notes throughout first 50 pages at least as well as page 87 (pages look clean otherwise but the examiner may have missed some notes someplace else). Binding is separating from spine but is held to cover by end paper at present. We are a Benedictine Abbey and Seminary library in Oregon. We appreciate your support.

By examining Chrà tien's literary development, the author argues that Chrà tien's infatuation with Ovid marked a turning point in his literary career. This influence is particularly evident in the love situations of Chrà tien's works, with the exception of *Erec et Enide* and *Guillaume dâAngleterre*. The author shows how the influence of Ovid on Chrà tien's work establishes a clear chronological order of Chrà tien's works, with the Ovidiana following *Erec*. The author goes on to discuss other similarities between Ovid's and Chrà tien's writings, including the treatment of such themes as tyranny of love, imperious and humiliating treatment by the loved lady, abject obedience on the part of the lover, and extreme mental absorption that leads to madness.
