Soft cover. Zustand: Fine. Breviarium Ordinis Praedicatorum (Breviarium S.O.P.). Two volumes. Rome, 1962. An exceptionally rare complete two-volume set of the 1962 Breviarium Ordinis Praedicatorum, the official Divine Office of the Order of Preachers, printed with the traditional Vulgate Psalter. Complete sets of this final pre-conciliar Dominican Breviary are seldom encountered on the market and are among the most elusive liturgical books of the twentieth century. Issued immediately before the liturgical reforms of the Second Vatican Council, this edition preserves the centuries-old Dominican Office in its classical form, making it of considerable importance to collectors of Dominican liturgy, ecclesiastical history, and traditional Latin liturgical books. Unlike the more commonly available Roman Breviaries, the Dominican Breviary was produced in comparatively limited numbers for use within the Order, contributing to its present rarity. The set is uniformly bound in its original supple soft leather bindings with attractive red page edges. The text is entirely in Latin. Although the bindings show honest signs of use consistent with devotional service, the contents are complete and the text remains clean, sound, and highly legible throughout. Collation: Volume I: LXXXII, 1104, 220, 86 pages. Volume II: LVII, 994, 198, 88 pages. A scarce and highly desirable survival of the Dominican liturgical tradition, representing the final 1962 edition of the Breviarium Ordinis Praedicatorum before the sweeping reforms of the modern Roman Rite. Complete examples are rarely available and are increasingly sought after by collectors, institutions, and scholars of traditional Catholic liturgy. …
