Double-page title in red and black, text printed within engraved frames, some full-page engraved illustrations, some ornaments printed in red, 12 photogravures of plants printed on Japan paper, bound as a booklet into green card wrappers with gold printing, and pasted on the front free endpaper as issued. (Some spotting to yapp edges, Japan paper spotted.) Original quarter calf and green paper covers, gilt frames on calf sides, the upper side also titled in gilt (dampstained, extremities rubbed, some soiling, some abrasion on upper cover). FIRST EDITION, DESIGNED AND PRINTED BY FRANK LLOYD WRIGHT. One of only 90 copies, this one number 78, signed by Wright and Winslow. The design of The House Beautiful established the form followed by most of Wright's subsequent books, and prefigures some of his famous stained-glass window designs.
