Vintage sheet music in pictorial stout paper wrappers, upper cover with coloured illustration by Fred Low, lower cover shows first line of pieces by Handel arranged by Heller Nicholls. 20 pages in all including the covers, stapled. A simple arrangement of plantation songs with a verse of the song, includes Swanee River, Camptown Races, Polly Wolly Doodle etc. The composer of most of the tunes was Stephen Collins Foster, an American of Irish descent, born in Pittsburg, Pa, in 1828. The title of this collection of tunes derives from the English Folk Song Ditty still popular at that time. In very good condition contents clean and unmarked but with some minor chipping of top edge of front cover with some writing (possibly future music lesson times), upper corners a little dog-eared without loss and an inch split to the top hinge. Loosely inserted is a four page extract of four pieces of music from the "Gem" Series. Size: 12" x 9". Scarce.
