The dust jacket has some small loss at the top of the spine, and has some slight handling marks. It has not been price clipped (Fry | The Lady's Not for B…urning | Oxford | Price 6s. net). The text blocks are so slightly foxed. The boards are fine in the publisher's green cloth. The bookplate of Geoffrey Cumberlege is pasted to the front pastedown, likely designed by Reynolds Stone. Accompanying this title are two programmes for 'The Lady's Not For Burning'. The first is for a production at the Theatre Royal, Brighton, which occurred during the week of March 7th 1949, and the second, for the Globe Theatre on May 11th 1949. Loosely inserted is handwritten letter from the author, Christopher Fry, regarding this title. 227x179mm. Single sheet, folded. Addressed to Geoffrey Cumberlege, the publisher of this title, it bears the Oxford University Press ink stamp and is headed at 'Shipton-under-Wychwood'. It is dated March 23rd 1949 and reads: 'Dear Cumberlege: | It all seems to be going quite merrily, | good houses, and performances considerably | improving as they go. This note is really | to ask how your wife is. I've been wondering | if she?s better yet. | I hope sales are coming up to | expectation. | Ever: | Christopher'. To the verso is a pencil note, presumably in Cumberlege's hand: 'Has Francis not any Binyon | books. Pully & Jane | Xmas Eve | Day in the Country'. This note refers to works by Helen and Margaret Binyon. A flawless association between publisher and author, in which the success of this work is discussed, and personal matters too. Overall, this is a near fine copy of a sterling association copy. Signed by Author(s).
