The faded-elegance of the cloth cover has been much owned. It is worn, marked, wounded. All edges, corners and seams have wear. The covers and the spine body are much marked by storage and handling. The back cover has been damaged during storage. However, the binding is stoic, brave and sturdy. Inside, the guttering along the inside front and back covers is cracked - but this has not weakened the security of the binding. There are damp stains on the front and end papers. The gold edging to the paper trims is still bright and fresh. The pages are clean, pugnacious in their tenacious youthfulness.
