"In the wake of the phenomenal success of The French Connection, author Robin Moore was contacted by the wife of the man who took the rap in that case. Her name: Barbara Fuca. Her story: Moore had gotten the facts of the Franch Connection all wrong because he'd never heard the Mafia side of it. The result: Mafia Wife - an insider's story that rips the lid off the multi-million-dollar heroin bust that mae national headlines and an intimate look at what really happens to women who belong to the Mob. Barbara Fuca as born in Brooklyn on March 7, 1942. Her Polish-Jewish mother, Rose, and her small-time gangster father were not married, and Barbara grew up onthe streets. At fifteen she quit Brooklyn for Mahhattan where she worked as a barmaid in an after-hours club on the Lower East Side. Quick-talking, street smart, and looking several years older than her age, she soon moved up to the posher clubs and began dating men like waterfront boss Harry Bull, Joe Colombo, and Pasquale (Patsy) Fuca, nephew and designated heir of a powerful Mafioso, ANge Tuminaro. Now Barbara began to learn how the inner-circle of the Mafia operated -- the rituals, the obligations, the hierarchy, the complicated private and personal entanglements, the risks -- and when she married Patsy her indoctrination was complete. Patsy was at the very center of the French Connection heroin network, and when the network was busted by the narcs, it was Patsy, set up as the fall guy -- and Barbara -- who took the rap. Here, for the first time, is the raal story of the French Connection: not the one that Detectives Grosso and Egan gave to the D.A., Robin Moore, and the Hollywood producer . It is the story of one tough, determined woman who was double-crossed by the Mafia and the police, but managed to survive. It is also the story of many women who belong to the Mob: wild Helen, who blew a cover because she fell for the gangster she was "dating"; Rosalie, the convent-educated girl, who was almost literally sold in marriage to a gangland chieftain; Lydia, dead of an illegal $100 abortion because her boyfriend, Sonny, wouldn't marry her and wanted the cheapest way out. Finally it is a detailed account of what law-and-order means in a subculture that considers itself above and beyond the laws that govern the rest of us - a portrait of a side of the Mafia that has never been seen before." - from the inner front and rear jacket flaps. Karl, Jerry (jacket design); Sinish, John (rear outer jacket photograph) (illustrator).…
