From Preface: Dick Funsch, in his preface to the first edition of this book, challened his successors to "fill in the blanks, to correct the inaccuracies, to keep current [the club's history] through the years.…" Technical advances during the 20 years that have passed since Richard H. "Dick" Funsch issued that challenge have afforded our team of Barbara Watson Clapp, Tom Pierce, Gina Bowden-Pierce and me the opportunity to recover, restore and to present to St. Petersburg Yacht Club members wonderful images from our club's past that could not be included in the 1989 edition. We have also sought to fill in the blanks with new information concerning our distant past as well as document events of the last 20 years. Some new stories have supplanted old stories. If you want them all you must read Dick Funsch's first edition. As people now say, it is a good read, and it has a flavor that only he could create. Our team had the assistance of many, many people. We have attempted to recognize them in the acknowledgement section. When you see them, thank them, for we surely do. And, to our successors we say: Dick's challenge -- and ours -- now is your challenge. Florida, Floridiana, Florida History, St. Petersburg, Maritime, Pinellas County, Yacht Club. nslic.
