Hardcover. Zustand: Fair. Selectae e Profanis Scriptoribus Historiae. Quibus admista sunt Varia Honeste Vivendi Praecepta, Ex iisdem Scriptoribus deprompta Nova Editio Prioribus longe emendatior Philadelphia (Philadelphiae) Apud T. Dobson. 1787. Hardcover. Original boards, but leather is missing from the spine and edges of the boards, leaving just panels of leather at the center of each board. 320 pages. Pages toned and a bit wavy. Pages 229-240 nearly detached. Ownership name on the title page, "G. Ege. January 26 '96." This is likely George Ege, a Pennsylvania Congressman during the fourth and fifth Congress (during the presidencies of George Washington and then John Adams). Ege was born in Germantown, PA in 1748. He was raised by his uncle Baron Stiegel, who operated the Charming Forge in Berks County, PA. Ege took over the forge in 1774 and ran it until his death in 1829. He was one of the first associate judges in Berks County, and served in the PA House of Representatives as well. A nice early American imprint with interesting association. Signed by Author(s).
