L'auteur nous propose par exemple de comparer les chapiteaux de certains stambha indiens à la partie en 'pétales tombants' du chapiteau persépolitain, de nous demander si l'allure classique des drapés de la statuaire gandharienne ne serait pas une représentation indienne du vêtement que portaient alors les étrangers, ou encore d'interroger la corrélation entre la disparition du lion en Inde et la stylisation grandissante de sa représentation. Une partie importante du dernier chapitre est également consacré à l'art de la civilisation de l'Indus et des rapports que celle-ci entretint avec la Mésopotamie.
