(Note: the Accompaniment Tape and full score referenced in the production notes are not included with this script.) "Wind of a Thousand Tales" is a children's theater play by John Glore with optional music and lyrics by Diane King (credited on WorldCat as Diane King Vann), commissioned and originally produced in April 1988 by South Coast Repertory's Young Conservatory Players in Costa Mesa, California, directed by Jose Cruz Gonzalez. In the framing story, Kimberly-Kay, "a child of tomorrow" who dismisses fairy tales as boring and untrue, is visited in her bedroom by three Breezes belonging to the Wind of a Thousand Tales. To change her mind, the Wind and its ensemble enact folk tales from Mexico, Japan, and a fictional middle-European country. An ensemble of twelve actors can play all the roles. Playing time is 65 to 70 minutes. Recommended for audiences from kindergarten through high school and enjoyable by adults as well. The play may be produced as a musical or non-musical; the only essential song is "Corazons," which may be lip-synced using a Demonstration Tape formerly available from the publisher. Selected for the ASSITEJ/USA "Best Available Plays" Project. Contents: Part I (A tale from Mexico); Part II (A tale from Japan); Part III (A tale from middle Europe). With Production Notes covering properties, costumes, music and sound effects, set description, and floor plan.
